NATIVE X Def Jam

A headline worthy deal has been made as Lagos Nigeria record company named NATIVE Records has entered an exclusive partnership with Def Jam Recordings. The deal was announced by Tunji Balogun, the chairman and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, as well as Seni ‘chubbz’ Saraki and Teni ‘Teezee’ Zaccheaus, two of the co-founders of NATIVE Records.

NATIVE Records is the music division of NATIVE Networks, a Black- owned and operated multi-platform that focuses on the discovery and development of young African artists and the youth culture. It was founded in 2016 by Seni Saraki, Teni Zaccheasus, Shola Fagbemi, Ademide Edgal and Suleiman Shittu. NATIVE has also popularly made footprints globally with their NATIVE Magazine and highly rated NATIVE Festival.

Def Jam Recordings CEO Tunji Balogun described the deal as “authentic and natural”. He said, “as we build a culture here at Def Jam that connects the best in global black music diaspora- from hip-hop to R&B and Reggae, Afrobeat and more- clearly some of the best, and most vital sounds in music today are coming out of Africa”. The new venture deal is a step up for NATIVE Recordings and a new open door for young African artists.
